[...] You immediately want to touch the shiny colored skins [of the Lazy Paintings] to feel their elasticity and firmness. The colorful and soft surface makes the works look like cushions, which makes you want to fall down on them. This would be possible, as Julia Gruner's 'paintings' do not hang on the wall as usual, but spread out voluminously and shapelessly on the floor surface of the room. Nevertheless, the traditional material of painting, paint, is her starting point. As in other works, Julia Gruner uses paint detached from a picture support to create a thin, elastic layer of paint. [...] In the case of the 'inert paintings', two skins of paint envelop soft bubble wrap, so that the stretched areas of paint become large, voluminous cushions. –Excerpt from the catalog text for the exhibition "FLAT VOLUMES" at the Städthische Galerie Lüdenscheid by Romina Dümler
